Kohima : The opposition Congress party and the Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) are in a close fight as counting of votes for the 60-member legislature in Nagaland was underway Saturday.
According to latest trends available, the Congress party is leading in seven seats followed by the NPF in six seats. An independent and a Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate were leading in two other seats.
Counting of votes was going at a slow pace with trends coming in a trickle. Counting of votes is underway for 57 seats with re-polling going on in some polling centres spread over three constituencies Saturday.
“Votes of the three constituencies where re-polling is on would be taken up for counting later in the day, when the polling ends at 4 p.m.,” an election official said.
An estimated 85 percent of the total 1.3 million voters exercised their franchise in Wednesday’s vote for the 60-member state legislature.
The fight for political supremacy would be between the Congress and the NPF.
