Wellington, New Zealand : Two motorcycle racers were killed in a high speed collision at Pukekohe Raceway south of Auckland on Sunday, ap quoted police sources as saying.
The riders were on the 14th of 15 laps of a 600 cc sports production race when one struck the other from behind at around 250kmh (156mph), according to track staff.
The crash, on the back straight and about 200 meters from a hairpin turn, may have been due to mechanical failure on one of the bikes, according to Paul Pavletich of Motorcycling New Zealand.
It appears that one of the riders had his hand up to signify he was slowing down, Pavletich said.
Another rider came from behind at high speed and crashed into the back of him.
