The attack comes in the wake of the political clashes between the ruling CPI-M and the RSS that has left at least seven people killed in Kerala’s Kannur district over the past week.

The police had to burst teargas shells and use water cannons to control the rampaging RSS mob. The police have also detained 15 activists.

The angry RSS workers pelted stones at the CPI-M headquarters and also damaged some of the cars, including that of CPI-M politburo member Brinda Karat.

Personnel from the Rapid Action Force have been deployed on Bhai Mahaveer Singh Marg, near the Gole Market area.

The bout of violence in Kerala started when an RSS leader was attacked in Thalassery town Wednesday. Three people lost their lives later Wednesday in retaliation by the RSS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and in counter-attacks by the CPI-M. While one person was killed Thursday, two others were murdered Friday.
