Ten BJP legislators signed the motion.

“Recent appointments to various posts in the assembly witnessed large-scale irregularities. Aalam does not give any importance to assembly committees,” said Raghubar Das, a BJP legislator.

“The speaker also plays partisan politics in the house and favours the ruling side on important issues,” he added. The date of debate on the motion has not been fixed.

The Congress has criticised the BJP move against the speaker. Aalam belongs to the Congress. “The BJP is unable to digest a minority speaker. And this is the reason behind their decision to bring a no-confidence motion against him,” said Manoj Yadav, a Congress legislator.

The BJP had brought a no-confidence motion against the Madhu Koda government during the winter session. It was defeated.
