Agartala : There was no threat to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government over the India-US nuclear deal, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat said here Monday.
“There is no threat to the UPA government, and it would complete its full five-year term,” Karat told journalists.
He said the talks between the Left and the UPA on the nuclear deal, which his communist party opposes, would take place next week.
“External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee after discussing with UPA allies would fix the date of the crucial meeting next week,” Karat said.
The CPI-M leader was in Agartala for the swearing-in ceremony of the Left Front government in Tripura.
“The Left parties’ great victory in Tripura in the recent assembly elections would boost the Left movement across the country,” Karat added.
A 12-member Left Front ministry, headed by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, assumed office Monday after a formal oath taking ceremony at the Raj Bhavan.
