The state-run television quoted the president as saying that he has signed summary for the summoning of the National Assembly session.

Sessions of the four provincial assemblies have also been convened on March 17 (Monday), PTV reported.

Members-elect will take oath and also elect speaker and deputy speaker in the first session.

Victors of the February 18 parliamentary elections were demanding of the president to summon the national and provincial assemblies to form new government.

The National Assembly, lower house of the parliament, will also elect the country’s new prime minister.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of slain former prime minister Benazir Bhutto and Pakistan Muslim League-N party of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif have agreed on a coalition government in the center and the biggest Punjab province.

Prime minister would be from the PPP, however, the party has not yet named its nominee for the office of the prime minister.

Speaker and deputy speaker of the National Assembly will also be taken from the PPP and ministries will be distributed between the PPP, PML-N as well as a nationalist party ‘Awami National Party’, based in North West Frontier Province.

“The next government will have to focus on economic development, war against terrorism and political stability,” PTV quoted the president as saying.

President Musharraf condemned the twin suicide blasts in Lahore and said the misleading elements have carried out inhuman act.

“These elements are defaming Islam on the name of religion,” the president said.
