The consultation process started by PPP’s co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari to finalize the name of candidate has entered the final stage, said the report.

Zardari held consultations with the newly elected members of the National Assembly from five divisions of Punjab province.

The meeting discussed various names for the slot of the prime minister and the members of National Assembly reposed full confidence in Zardari, authorizing him to nominate any person for premiership.

The PPP’s vice-chairman Amin Fahim had been a frontrunner for the post.

However, Zardari said in a statement that the PPP would reconsider its earlier decisions after it made a joint declaration with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Sunday.

The two parties agreed to form coalition governments at the centre and in Punjab province.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf Tuesday said that the first sessions of National Assembly and provincial assemblies would be convened March 17.

The PPP emerged as the largest party in National Assembly in the general elections.
