Third Arab conference on negotiations for joining WTO opens in Damascus

Damascus : The third Arab conference on the future orientations of the World Trade Organisation (WTO ) in light of the latest Doha conference opened here with the participation of 80 experts from all the Arab countries.

The event is arranged under the title “The Chances and Challenges Facing the Arab Countries,” and organised by the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Trade, the Union of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, the Arab Organisation for Administration Development and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Minister of Economy and Trade Dr Amer Hosni Lutfi told the conferees Monday that Syria was determined to further boost the process of economic development, activating the investment, building solid bridges with the outside world, improving performance and production.

He said that holding the conference in Damascus sends a clear signal to the international community on Syria’s real willingness in terms of its lead in the social market economy and involvement in the world economy.

The conference focuses on the problems and difficulties facing the Arab countries in carrying out the WTO agreements.
