The two suicide blasts ripped through the building of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and an advertising agency in Model town area of Lahore city, about 370 kilometers southeast of Islamabad.

City Police Chief, Muhammad Iqbal, talking to newsmen confirmed the two blasts were suicide attacks. However, he did not give further details.

According to police sources, a suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden vehicle in the parking area of the FIA building on Temple Road, which also triggered gas cylinder blasts. The bomber had used explosives weighing 35 to 40 Kg.

They said the explosion was so big it smashed window panes of several nearby houses and buildings, demolished part of the FIA Building, and set over a dozen cars parked outside the Building on fire.

The explosion killed over 25 people and wounded nearly 150 others, said sources, adding that at the time of the explosion, more than 200 people were inside the building. They feared a rise in the death toll.

In the second explosion that occurred only a few minutes after the first, two suicide bombers rammed their vehicle into an advertising agency building in front of a school and near the Bilawal House of assassinated Benazir Bhutto, the former Prime Minister killed in a suicide blast in December.

A source said the second explosion killed five people including two children and wounded ten others.

They said the explosion also caused damage to the school building.

Security was put on high alert across the city and in other major cities of the country after the explosion.

Angry students and traders held a protest demonstration on Mall road near the FIA building to condemn the blast and inability of the government to improve the law and order situation.(pick upprevious).
