“A case under section 420, 468, 471 and 120 has been lodged against former civil supplies minister Singhi Ram and his daughter Upma in a Shimla police station late Tuesday,” said I.D. Bhandari, additional director general of police.

According to preliminary investigations, it was found that Ram’s daughter Upma had failed her Class 12 examination at Lawrence School, Sanawar, 80 km from here, in 2005.

But a false certificate was produced a year later from the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board with 86 percent marks that enabled her to get admission in New Delhi’s Lady Shriram College, the police alleged.

Upma used the Scheduled Caste quota as former minister and Congress leader Ram is a Dalit.

The father may be arrested soon, police sources said. Action will also be taken against the school board officials.

The investigation began recently after the vigilance bureau received an anonymous complaint.
