New Delhi : The government may monitor the quality of school education in light of the recommendations of the National Knowledge Commission (NKC), parliament was informed Wednesday.
Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajasekharan Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha: “The recommendations of NKC regarding creation of a national body to monitor the quality of both the government and private schools are under examination”.
He was replying to a question by Uday Singh of Bharatiya Janata Party, P. Satheedevi of Communist Party of India-Marxist, Hemlal Murmu of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Jayaprada of Samajwadi Party.
The government had constituted the NKC under the chairmanship of noted technocrat Sam Pitroda to suggest measures to bring in qualitative transformation in the education – from primary to postgraduate levels. The commission made several recommendations for revamping the education sector.
For quality management of school education, the NKC had said “there is a need for a national body to monitor the quality of both government and private schools to ensure that minimum standards are met in terms of learning outcomes”.
“Currently there is no systematic and continuous feedback on the actual impact and outcome of various educational schemes and initiatives, or the actual quality of education imparted in schools. There is a strong case for a testing body at the national level for quality assessment of schools,” said the NKC.
