World Kidney day tomorrow:Free camp inaugurated; renal dieseases on rise

Lahore : Awareness for a judicious lifestyle, including balanced diet,is required to protect human kidneys which daily purify 200 litres of blood through 25 natural dialysis -a great blessing of the nature.

In connection with the World kidney day on March 13 Thursday,

free kidney camps have been organized in all the four provinces where free

medical checkup as well as medicines are being provided to the patients, said

Principal, Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI), Professor Sajjad Hussain at

the inaugural of a ‘free kidney camp’ at Lahore General

Hospital here on Wednesday. The MS of LGH Dr. Umer Farooq Baloch, Associate Prof.of Urology Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Capt. ® Dr. Abdul Basit and other senior doctors were also present on the occasion.

“Balanced diet, regular exercise, avoiding smoking and alcoholism, refraining from unnecessary use of drugs can prevent kidney and renal disorders. High blood pressure and diabetes are another root-cause of kidney diseases”, he elaborated.

According to news release,the expert said kidney diseases are increasing and

one person out of every 10 is suffering from kidney problem. He stressed that use

of betel leaf, betel nuts, catechu and lime cause stone formation in kidney.

Controlling weight , blood pressure and cholesterol can ensure healthy functioning of kidneys, he said ,adding that loss of hunger,sleeplessness, swelling on feet, cramps in legs and urinary problems are the main symptoms of kidney disease.

Latest dialysis machines have been installed and medicines costing Rs 5 million are being provided to the kidney patients annually in Lahore General Hospital Urology department. All the latest facilities including laparoscopic operations are available under one roof.

Associate Professor (Urology) Dr. Mumtaz also addressed the function.
