Mumbai : Infrastructure and engineering major RITES Ltd, a subsidiary of Indian Railways, will upgrade railway and other existing related infrastructure in Namibia.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between RITES and TansNamib Holdings Ltd, during a visit of a delegation led by Namibian Minister of Works, Transport and Communication Joel N. Kaapanda to India recently.
According to a statement issued by RITES Thursday, the inking of the agreement comes in the wake of a proposal by the Namibian government to construct a new railway line in the country.
The proposed railway line will run from Tsumeb to Ondangwa and then onwards to Oshakati and Oshikango at the border with Angola. The new line will eventually will get linked to the Angolan Rail system near Cassinga.
RITES will also look into the up gradation and rehabilitation of existing train control system using GPS-based technology, old locomotives and supply of new cape gauge rail cars.
RITES will also provide technical and managerial assistance, advisory services for public-private partnership and training for commercial and operating staff.
