Mumbai : The Goa government suspended police Sub-Inspector Nerlon Albuquerque Thursday and charged him with laxity in the investigation of British tourist Scarlette Keeling’s murder.
The government initiated the inquiry against Albuquerque Thursday morning and suspended him in the afternoon, Inspector General of Police Goa Kishen Kumar told IANS.
According to Kumar, action against more officials of the Anjuna police station will be taken soon. Albuquerque was the original investigating officer of the murder case of Scarlette but was later removed from the case.
The suspension came after a senior doctor, who conducted the first autopsy of Scarlette, claimed that Albuquerque and his subordinate Lakshya Amonkar ignored his findings in the autopsy report.
The doctor stated that he had informed both Amonkar and Albuquerque that the manner in which Scarlette had died revealed high chances of homicide.
The statement by the doctor came as a setback for the police machinery that had registered the case as murder only after the second autopsy was conducted.
