He filed five sets of nomination papers before returning officer and state assembly secretary Devendra Verma at the assembly complex in the presence of Chief Minister Raman Singh and state party president Vishnudeo Sai.

The BJP has 53 members in the 90-member state assembly, while the main opposition Congress has 34 legislators. The Nationalist Congress Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party have one member each while one seat is vacant.

Motilal Vora of the Congress party filed his papers March 12 to get re-elected to the upper house of parliament. The election of both the candidates is just a formality.
