Japan to host Iraq”s conciliation seminar

Tokyo : The Japanese government will invite an Iraqi delegation comprised of lawmakers, including heads of parties of both Shiite and Sunni sects, to an Iraqi national conciliation seminar on March 20-28, the Foreign Ministry said Friday.

“The seminar is based on the consideration that the promotion of national conciliation among different ethnic and sectarian groups is essential for Iraq’s solid stabilization,” the Ministry said in a statement. “The current security situation in Iraq showing signs of improvement, and Japan’s efforts of holding such seminar is expected to contribute to that end,” the statement added.

During their stay, the delegation will also discuss the current issues of Iraq such as Oil and Gas Law, and visit Hiroshima to share the experiences of Japan’s post-war democratization, peace building and reconstruction.

Tokyo also hosted the conciliation seminar in March last year, in which 15 Iraqi National Assembly members participated, representing Shiites and Sunnis as well as Kurds.
