The National Resistance Brigades, the military wing of the Marxist-oriented Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), said in a statement its gunners fired a pair of rockets in the direction of the Israeli town of Sderot.

The missiles were fired in retaliation for the “Zionist massacres against our people and the brave resistance,” the splinter group said.

Another faction, Al-Quds Brigades of the Islamic Jihad in Palestine organization, said in a statement that its fighters unleashed three missiles, Al-Quds type, on the Israeli town of Sderot, affirming that its fighters would only muzzle their guns when all Palestinian soil “has been liberated.” The group reported firing up to 38 missiles yesterday, as Israeli warplanes attacked Palestinian targets in Gaza Strip. Other factions also reported missile attacks on southern Israel on Thursday.

The Israeli media network, Haaretz, quoted Israeli military officials as saying that the week-long lull with the Palestinians “appeared to have come to an end.” It confirmed that two rockets slammed into the western Negev town on Sderot on Friday morning. On Thursday, rockets and mortars rained on Sderot and other communities bordering the Gaza Strip as Palestinian militants responded to the killing Wednesday of four Islamic Jihad gunmen in Bethlehem.
