International fair on books on Islam and Saudi Arabia launched

Riyadh : Prince Mishal bin Abdullah bin Musaed, advisor of the Crown Prince Sultan, opened the First edition of the international fair on books on Islam and Saudi Arabia, here yesterday. As many as 77 researchers and thinkers as well as politicians from Saudi Arabia have participated in the project. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Badr Karim, the Project’s Supervisor General, said the project aims at correcting the wrong concepts about Islam in the western societies as well as explaining the stand of Saudi Arabia which has been subject to vicious campaigns in its capacity as the cradle of Islam and the country which hosts the Two Holy Mosques.

On his part, Dr Mohammed al-Bishr, Head of the Scientific Team of the Project, said it will focus on Islam and the Kingdom in an objective manner. He extended a memorial shield to Crown Prince Sultan, in recognition of his role in supporting the Project. The memorial gift was received on behalf of Crown Prince Sultan by Prince Mishal bin Abdullah bin Musaed. On her part, Dr Fathiya bint Hussein Al Qurashi, the professor of sociology at King Abdul Aziz University, underscored the importance of the project, and said it projects the ideal concept about the Saudi women by female writers who are of different backgrounds and trends.

She reiterated the adherence of the Saudi women to the Islamic ideology for improving the status of women. “Only through Islam, we can reform our situation and develop our capabilities avoiding the mistakes committed by those who tried to ignore the teachings of the religion, ” she said noting that the religion has made it possible to develop and update.
