Islamabad : The Interior Ministry would spell out its action plan for maintaining law and order and to curb the menace of terrorism under the policy guidelines of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani, the spokesman said on Tuesday.
Briefing newsmen in Islamabad, the Ministry’s spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema said the new Government would soon unveil its program to deal with the serious problems confronting the country including the fight against extremism and terrorism.
“The Prime Minister would give details of the Government’s immediate agenda after obtaining vote of confidence from the National Assembly”.
To a question he said equipment would soon be procured from China for improving security arrangements at important places.
The spokesman said due to the final hectic phase of transition, the regional meeting of the SAARC countries on counter-terrorism cooperation and meeting of the police chiefs scheduled from March 25th to 27th in Islamabad had to be rescheduled.
This will now be held from April 15th to 17th.
The new dates have been set after consultations with the SAARC secretariat and the member states.
About situation in Swat he said three illegal FM radio stations were seized during search and cordon operations last week.
These illegal radio stations were intercepted for broadcasting messages of militants.
Twelve suspects have been arrested and a large quantity of illegal small arms, ammunition, audio cassettes and provocative literature confiscated.
Replying to a question Javed Iqbal Cheema said good progress has been made in investigations into bombing of federal investigation agency building in Lahore while investigations are continuing into Italian restaurant bombing in Islamabad.
He confirmed that the President has stayed hanging of Sarbajit Singh, an Indian national sentenced to death for his involvement in acts of terrorism in Pakistan.
