Spokesman: Pakistan to chalk out new anti-terrorism policy

Islamabad : Pakistan’s Interior Ministry would spell out its action plan to curb the menace of terrorism under the policy guidelines of new Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani, a ministry spokesman said here .

Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema said the new government would soon unveil its program to deal with the serious problems confronting the country including the fight against extremism and terrorism.

“The prime minister would give details of the government’s immediate agenda after obtaining vote of confidence from the National Assembly,” Cheema said on Tuesday.

Gillani from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was elected as Pakistan’s prime minister on Monday.

Following an oath-taking ceremony administered by President Pervez Musharraf earlier Tuesday, Gillani said he would announce a100-day program soon after taking the vote of confidence within 60 days.

Gillani also stressed that all forces need to join hands to take the country out of current crises.

Meanwhile Musharraf reiterated his full support to the new government, and urged cooperation in fighting terrorism.

“I will extend my full support to him, always,” Musharraf told reporters when asked about his role in the new government.

“All the political forces in the country needed to work together to confront the threats of extremism and terrorism looming ahead,” the News Network International (NNI) reported.
