Srinagar : Scores of Tibetan refugees based here held a protest march Wednesday against the recent Chinese government action in Lhasa.
Men, women and children in yellow robes staged a sit-in at Pratap Park in the centre of the Jammu and Kashmir summer capital and later took out a silent march, carrying placards.
The protestors told newsmen that they want to draw attention of the international community to the happenings in their homeland.
“China is infamous for using state machinery to doctor evidence and propaganda to confuse and fool the world,” a statement issued by the community said.
“We want to pay homage to all Tibetan martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet.”
Around 100,000 Tibetan exiles live in India who fled their homeland after a massive Chinese crackdown in 1959. Scores of Tibetan families live in specially created colonies in Kashmir.
The protestors appealed the UN and the international community to send independent fact-finding teams to Tibet.
The protestors alleged that since March 10, over 135 Tibetans have been killed and hundreds arrested and tortured.
However, Chinese authorities are putting the latest death toll in Tibet disturbances at 22.
