Japan”s envoy for Middle East to attend Arab League summit

Tokyo : Japan’s special envoy for the Middle East Process will visit Syria, Israel, Palestine and the US to dicuss with his counterparts the current situation on the peace process, the Foreign Minsitry announced.

Dr. Tatsuo Arima, the government’s special envoy, is scheduled to arrive in Damascus on Friday, where he will attend the two-day Arab League summit from Saturday as an observer.

During his stay in Syria, Dr. Arima is scheduled to hold talks with government officials from various Middle Eastern countries, the ministry said.

He will then fly to Jerusalem on March 31 to meet with Israeli and Palestinian officials, before heading for Washington on April 3.

Using its economic clout and good ties with Arab nations, Tokyo is keen on playing a key role in helping to build mutual trust in the Middle East and to bring peace and stability to the region.

Japan is the third-largest donor to Palestinians after the US and the European Union.
