Arab leaders convene Saturday in Damascus for 20th summit

Damascus : Arab leaders and their representatives convene for the 20th Arab Summit Saturday to discuss topics on the agenda approved by the foreign ministers in their preparatory meeting.

The draft resolutions approved by the ministerial meeting include a host of political, economic and social issues.

The Palestinian crisis and the peace initiative top the agenda, as well as the situations in Iraq, Lebanon, Darfur, Somalia, and other issues of concern.

Ten leaders, alongside the host, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, are taking part in the meetings. Those attending are the heads of state of Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, Algeria, Sudan, Tunisia, Palestine, Mauritania, Libya, and the Comoros Islands.

Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, had arrived here Friday to attend the meeting.

Morocco will be represented by its crown prince, and Iraq and Yemen by their vice presidents, while Oman sent its deputy premier, Egypt is represented by minister of state for legal and parliamentary affairs, while permanent representatives will sit in the seats of Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Lebanon boycotted the summit.
