The experience of Shasti Duley — who came on as a substitute for Gouranga Dutta – paved the way for Biswas to hit from point blank range. Duley’s cross from the right saw keeper Gumpe Rime caught in two-minds allowing Biswas to take a full blown shot.

The win was Chirag’s first, which took their tally to four from two matches while HAL’s second consecutive loss dented their chances of making it to the final phase.

HAL were the first to go one-up when skipper Xavier Vijaykumar (9th minute) curled in a free kick. Chirag’s Lalmalsawma Hmar (11th) 25-yard shot levelled the score.

Nine minutes later, HAL took the lead for the second time through Okwagbe Fredrick’s sneaky finish. A free kick on the right taken by Murali failed to gain flight and bounced awkwardly before Fredrick, who took a long slot home.

Ejike Chika Chime (27th minute) scored for Chirag as Bimal Minz goofed controlling a cross, sent in by Biswas from the right, and the ball bounced off his body and Ejike was quick to pounce on the chance.

Chirag had the last laugh when Biswas scored in the injury time.
