The Damascus Declaration, adopted by the 20th summit of the 22-member pan-Arab bloc, says Arab peace initiative with Israel depends on Israel’s implementation of the international resolutions, adding that Arab governments will review their strategies on peace with Israel.

But the declaration didn’t elaborate on options under consideration and when the review would take place.

At the opening session of the summit on Saturday, AL Secretary General Amr Moussa called for a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in mid-2008 to evaluate the Arab-Israeli peace talks.

Moussa said Arab foreign ministers should meet in the middle of the year again to determine the direction where the Arab states should go ahead in the peace process with Israel.

The Arab peace initiative was adopted in Beirut summit in 2002,calling for an Israeli withdrawal from the territories occupied in the 1967 war in exchange for a complete relation normalization between Israel and the Arab states.

The two-day Damascus summit, starting from midday Saturday at the Ummayad Palace in the southern suburb of Damascus, brought together 11 Arab leaders, including President Bashar al-Assad of the host Syria.
