Dutch film aims to hurt feelings of Muslims, says Fiqh Academy

Jeddah : The International Islamic Fiqh Academy condemned yesterday the latest insult against Islam projected in an anti-Islam Movie entitled ‘Fitna” produced by Dutch politician Geert Wilders’. The Academy’s General Secretariat said in a press statement: “It deplores and condemns, in the strongest terms, such an heinous act and malicious crime. The Academy believes that this crime and the like of it reflects the flagrant defiance and deliberate provocation to the feelings of Muslims all over the world and demonstrates the latent hatred toward Muslims and the Holy Quran and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

This new movie is aimed at igniting sedition and conflict instead of ensuring harmony among the followers of religions and cultures,” it said. The statement also stressed that the dialogue of civilizations, cultures and religions can not be continued if extremists are allowed to ruin international relations with these irresponsible practices which certainly lead to opening the door wide for extremism, violence and terrorism.

The Academy called upon politicians and clerics in the West that they should shoulder their responsibilities and to take a clear stand against extremism, which has increased its pace and become more dangerous in recent years against Muslims and personalities as was the case in the cartoons crisis in Denmark, which is an utmost example of ideological and religious terrorism that allows mocking of the religious beliefs of others. The statement affirmed that the freedom of expression in any way does not mean abuse of others as it will generate chaos and freedom of aggression which is not accepted by Divine religions and man-made laws.
