New Delhi : Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Thursday mourned the death of noted Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande.
Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee described Deshpande as a “dedicated social worker, follower of Gandhian ideology and one who worked tirelessly for warm relations between India and Pakistan”.
Nirmala Deshpande, 79, breathed her last Thursday morning. The eminent Gandhian was a Rajya Sabha member who worked for communal amity and upholding of Mahatma Gandhi’s values.
BJP prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani, mourning her death, said: “She propagated the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi both within the country and internationally.”
Party president Rajnath Singh said: “Deshpande was one of the prominent foot-soldiers of non-violence in India. Fighting for marginalised and oppressed sections of the society was her passion.”
