Kuwait City : The Fourth World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) continued its sessions for the third and final day today with the participation of ministers, educationalists and representatives of the private sector. Two parallel sessions held in the morning. The first was on “Education and Development in the Islamic World,” presided by Kuwait’s Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Nouriya Al-Subeeh. Participants included Director of UNESCO’s regional Bureau for Education in the Arab States Dr. Abdulmoneim Osman, President of Kuwait Society for the Advancement of Arab Children Dr. Hassan Al-Ibrahim, Director of the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies in the UK Dr. Farhan Nizami, and Chairman of Malaysia’s Technology University Dr. Wan Mohammad Zahed.
The second parallel session was on “The Private Sector’s Role in Development,” presided by the Tunisian Minister of Finance Mohammad Kashesh. The session brought together Chairman of Kuwait’s Agility Tarek Al-Sultan, Chairman and Managing Director of Kuwait’s International Investor Company Adnan Al-Bahar, Chairman of Uganda’s Chamber of Commerce Olive Zaitun Kigongo, and Senior Advisor at Booz Allen Hamilton Ian Bachanan.
These will be followed by the concluding session, which will feature an address by Patron of the WIEF the Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi, KUNA reported. This will be followed by an address by Indonesia President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The declaration of the forum will be read out by Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee Faisal Al-Hajji, and then closing remarks by Chairman of the WIEF Tun Musa Hitam. A press conference grouping Al-Hajji and Hitam will mark the end of the forum.
The Fourth WIEF was inaugurated by the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Tuesday, where he announced an initiative for establishing a food fund for Muslim countries and donated $100 million to it with the aim of providing immediate food assistance to the impoverished and contributing to agricultural projects.
