New Delhi : Kolkata Knight Riders captain Sourav Ganguly and his Rajasthan Royals counterpart Shane Warne were Friday fined 10 percent each of their match fee for breach of code of conduct during their match Thursday in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Match Referee Farokh Engineer held both Ganguly and Warne guilty of the Level I offence of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct, IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi said in a statement.
In addition to the fine, Warne was reprimanded for violating Section 1.7 of the ICC Code, which deals with ‘public criticism of, or inappropriate comment on a match-related incident or official’.
During the match at the Sawai Man Singh stadium, Ganguly was seen gesturing to umpire Pratap Kumar that South African Graeme Smith had not taken the catch cleanly in the deep off Yusuf Pathan.
The catch was referred to the third umpire at Ganguly’s insistence. The third umpire ruled in Ganguly’s favour. The left-hander was batting on 50 at the time and he added one more run before being caught by Mohammed Kaif off Warne.
Host Rajasthan Royals won the match by 45 runs.
The Referee has also suspended Mr. Pratap Kumar for one match for acceding to Ganguly’s request to consult the TV umpire, said Modi.
The IPL is being played under the ICC Playing Conditions and Rules.
