New Delhi : Winds of change may be sweeping Indian hockey but Australian Ric Charlesworth, the technical adviser of the national team, would like to buy some more time before saying ‘Chak De’.
“The change is positive, but a lot of things remain to be done. At the moment there is uncertainty and I will be in a better position to talk about the new dispensation after a few weeks,” said Charlesworth Thursday after the first meeting of the new selection committee headed by Olympian Aslam Sher Khan.
“India is far behind in world hockey and its performance in the last 30 years has been disappointing and it needs to be realised,” he said.
Charlesworth said that a lot of things will have to change, if India is thinking of building a strong team for the next Olympics.
“There has to be better administration, good coaching staff, new technology, resources and quality infrastructure in place. A lot of things have to fall in place.”
Charlesworth also said the national team itself needs a transformation.
“The players will have work hard and more importantly execute the plans during matches. India has the quality and depth in its ranks and can match up to the international level”
Charlesworth said that the suspension of the IHF came as a surprise to him.
“I was overseas when I heard the news and it came as a surprise to me. You never know, things happen quickly.”
