“We are determined to work for ending the crises, by electing anew president, removing sit-ins and reviving constitutional institutions in order to have a productive economy,” Seniora said.

The prime minister blamed the deteriorating economic situation in the country due to the political and security tension which prevailed in the past three years.

He did not see any reason to “hinder the constitutional institutions of the parliament and the presidency.”

The ruling coalition has been accusing Speaker Nabih Berri of closing down the parliament, after he postponed 18 times the election sessions due to the lack of legal quorum for electing a president.

The opposition is blamed by the majority of not insuring the quorum needed to elect the consensus candidate, army commander Michel Suleiman.

Despite Arab and international efforts, Lebanese political rival groups were unable to strike a deal that would ensure the election of a new president.

Lebanese presidential seat has been vacant since Nov. 24 when former President Emile Lahoud stepped down at the end of his term.
