Addressing the two-week NPT gathering in Geneva, Soltanieh said the report should specially concern the Action Plan for the 13 steps towards nuclear disarmament agreed at the 2000 NPT Final Document.

Soltanieh also called for reviewing and amending article six of the NPT document on dismantling nuclear weapons since it has not set any deadline for scrapping the weapons.

He said that due to lack of international supervision and control mechanism, the global community cannot make sure of authenticity of the nuclear states’ claim of cutting warheads.

He stressed that the international community will not be secure with spread of such arms.

The NPT Review Conference opened in Geneva on April 28 and will end on May 9.
