The decision was made by the UAE National Media Council (NMC), a government unit that oversees media development in the Gulf country, said the report.

The six publications include four dailies in Malayalam, a language spoken in southwest India, and one daily and one weekly in the official Pakistani language of Urdu.

“We do not have any issues with the newspapers. The problem is with printing permission. They had not obtained permission to print these papers in the UAE,” an NMC official was quoted as saying.

All the six papers did not print their UAE editions on Thursday because the NMC ordered the printing house to stop printing the titles as they have no printing rights in the country.

The NMC had earlier issued warnings to the papers at the end of a grace period to adjust their status in line with the laws.
