Chandimandir (Haryana) : In a joint operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the military intelligence of the Indian Army’s Western Command here have arrested a civilian employee of the army for demanding and accepting bribes to help youth get jobs with the army.
An army spokesman said Sunday that A.K. Sondhi, posted here, was caught Saturday while accepting bribe to help a candidate get job with the army’s ordnance establishment.
Sondhi and his wife both are civilian employees in the ordinance wing at the frontier Western Command headquarters here.
He was arrested from his Panchkula town residence near here.
The CBI and MI officials, who conducted the raid, said large quantities of cash and liquid assets like fixed deposit accounts and bonds were detected in Sondhi’s house.
They said that a trap to catch Sondhi was laid after a tab was kept on his activities following complaints.
Sondhi has been charged with amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The spokesman said Sondhi lured the poor and needy civilian youth with offers of permanent government jobs in various army ordnance establishments and extracted large sums of money from them.
