Kabul : As reconstruction is going on in many parts of the war-battered Afghanistan with the help of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), welfare organizations and donor countries, the NATO and ISAF troops are also playing their part in the rebuilding process. In recent days, the Italian troops under the Regional Command Capital (RC-Capital) of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) have inaugurated two foot bridges and five wells in Sarobi, a remote district of Kabul.
The RC-Capital is completing the welfare and developmental projects at the cost of more than two million dollars, officials said.
ISAF officials said work is also in progress to establish a library and new police station in the district as well. Such projects are also underway in the districts of Musai and Char Asyab, bordering the neighbouring province of Logar. The two districts are located south of the capital Kabul.
The multinational force said foundation stone of a school was laid there recently. Around 300 children from the two districts will benefit from the school.
According to an ISAF statement, the projects are funded by the Italian Ministry of Defence while being implemented in coordination with local authorities.
Besides the Italians, the French troops are also working on similar projects in the northern parts of Kabul.
The districts where the French troops are involved, include Gul Darra, Qara Bagh and Mir Bacha Kot. The projects include renovation and reconstruction of three government buildings, a district police station and construction of 14 bridges and seven wells. The projects will be completed at the cost of 1.4 million USD.
The third team under ISAF involved in the reconstruction in Kabul is the Turkish units of RC-Capital.
The projects planned by the Turkish team included digging of wells in Khake Jabbar district and construction of 12-classroom school. An amount of 200,000 is estimated to be spent by the Turkish teams on different projects in the capital Kabul.
