Kabul : A contracted helicopter made an emergency landing in Kunar province of eastern Afghanistan after coming under fire from insurgents, causing no casualties, the NATO-led military said here Monday.
The aircraft made a landing at a base of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in central Kunar “after taking machine-gun fire from an unknown number of insurgents,” the ISAF said in a statement.
An ensuing inspection to the helicopter found one bullet hole that “did minor damage” to the aircraft, it added.
The ISAF said no one aboard the contracted helicopter, which in an earlier statement was referred to as an “airplane”, was injured and repairs were underway to get the aircraft operational.
A total of 47,000 multi-national NATO-led troops are deployed with UN mandate in Afghanistan to help with stabilization and reconstruction.
