New Delhi : Upset over the abrupt adjournment of Parliament’s Budget session, the CPI today blamed the “Congress and BJP collusion” for “bringing down” the Parliamentary system and said that “the coalition experiment of Left and Congress has failed”.
“A fraud has been committed on the Parliamentary system of India by both Congress and BJP, whose collusion has resulted in ‘sine die’ adjournment of both the Houses of Parliament, four days ahead of scheduled period of May 9,” CPI Parliamentary party group leader and MP Gurudas Dasgupta told reporters here.
When asked as to why the Left continues to support the UPA government in the light of levelling such allegations on Congress, Dasgupta said, “we are not interested in imposing untimely mid-term polls on the country. However, the coalition experiment of Left and Congress has failed.” He added that with only 28 days of proceedings recorded, the Budget session of the Parliament was the shortest since 1985.
“As many as 34 Bills were to be discussed before Parliament, which included National Commission on Minorities Bill, a Bill on Immoral Trafficking, Payment of Gratuity Bill, National Waterways Bill and Unorganised Labour Bill among others,” he said, adding, however, that it was “adjourned before time on the plea of lack of business”.
The CPI leader said that on April 29, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of Lok Sabha had met and a five day long programme was agreed upon and parties had assured that cooperation would be given for continuous proceeding of Parliament.
