Islamabad : Unidentified gunmen shot dead two policemen in a southwestern Pakistani city on Wednesday, police said.
The gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire at a police patrolling team on the busiest Saryab Road in Quetta, the capital of southwestern Balochistan province.
A purported spokesman for the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), an anti-government militant group, phoned reporters at Quetta Press Club to claim responsibility for the attack.
A policeman was also critically injured in the attack, who was taken to Civil Hospital.
The assailants fled after the firing and police said they have launched a search operation, but no one was arrested.
The people in the area closed their shops after the incident.
Attacks on security forces and government installations have increased in Balochistan in recent days and BLA takes responsibility for such attacks.
