Raipur : Three policemen, including a platoon commander, were killed Thursday when Maoist guerrillas exploded a land mine in a forested stretch in Chhattisgarh’s southern Bastar region.
The incident took place near Chindgarh village in Kanker district, some 310 km south of here.
Deputy Inspector General Pawan Deo told IANS that platoon commander of the Chhattisgarh Armed Forces (CAF) Mahulal, an assistant sub-inspector and a constable were killed on the spot when the mine went off. Other police personnel were injured.
The explosion occurred when an 11-member road opening police unit passed over the landmine.
“It was a planned attack by the Maoists who trapped the police team. A massive reinforcement has fanned out all over the forested areas around the attack site to track down the insurgents,” said Deo by phone.
