Maputo : UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura predicted a shady future for humanity due to the rising of food prices worldwide.
Matsuura pointed out that the situation will hardest hit Africa, since as any other continent it will lack programs of food distribution.
“The increasing food crisis will bring about a shady future to the development of humanity for the next years”, UNESCO leader added.
In a speech given at the Biennial on Education in Africa, in this capital, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Director specified that poor children in particular will be the ones to suffer food shortage the most.
Matsuura explained that only with a right attitude and more education for all there is a possibility to diminish this pandemic and thus he referred to political leaders so that they fulfill their responsibilities before those most vulnerable.
“A basic education of quality for all must be among first priorities”, he added.
The production of fuels, the commercial barriers, non-productive harvests, the speculation in markets and the increase of oil prices, according to the analysts, have been the causes of current worldwide food crisis.
