Ramallah : A Hamas-affiliated religious organization on Sunday slammed intentions by President Mahmoud Abbas to put Palestinian national principles on public referendum.
“In any way, it is forbidden to go to referendum when it comes to a firm religious rule, a right for Allah or the general rights of the nation,” Palestinian Scholars League (PSL) said in a new fatwa.
President Abbas of Fatah movement has promised that, if any deal was achieved by Israeli and Palestinian peace negotiator, he will put it on public referendum before accepting it.
The negotiators try to broker a framework deal before the end of this year to enable creation of a Palestinian statehood on Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem with no clear vision about the fate of the Palestinian refugees and Jerusalem.
“Making concessions on part of Palestine land or an Islamic sanctuary is not subject to jurisprudence. And the right of return and self-determination are not subject to discretion,” the league said.
“Putting these rights and the similar rights on referendum is considered treason for Allah, the prophet, the faithful believers and the home,” it added.
It also outlawed security liaison between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), saying the coordination is aimed at “striking the resistance.”
