Turkey’s aerial and ground operations hit rebel positions

Ankara, Turkey : Turkey’s military says warplanes and artillery have hit Kurdish rebel positions in northern Iraq.

The military says targets in Saturday’s raids included an area just across the border where rebels have allegedly gathered after attacking a military outpost in Turkey. Six soldiers and 19 rebels were killed in the fighting that followed that attack.

The military says the raids were «intense and effective and care was taken not to harm the local Iraqi Kurdish population, the Associated Press reported.
