New Delhi : Threats to India’s infrastructure – including its atomic plants, ports and power stations – and how best to secure them were discussed here by senior home ministry officials and heads of these vital installations, an official spokesperson said Tuesday.
Home Minister Shivraj Patil stressed the need to synergize the efforts of all key partners for a safer and more efficient functioning of the installations in various sectors.
“There is a need to protect the supply chain of raw materials to these industries, as any disruption would not only impede their functioning but also impact on the country’s growing economy,” he told the meeting Monday.
Patil also underscored the need to protect these assets by adopting an integrated security system.
Over a year back, terrorist threats to these installations increased in the wake of the civilian nuclear energy deal with the United States, according to intelligence reports.
Oil and atomic installations were symbolic of the strides India had made in the fields of economics and science and the meeting deliberated on the need for laying down modalities for standardization of industrial security measures sector-wise.
Various methods of security risk assessment of installations and other problems being faced by them also came up for discussion.
