Ranchi : Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) guerrillas are planning to attack important government installations and have expanded their base in Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab, a top leader of the banned outfit has told the police after his arrest in Jharkhand.
Pramod Mishra, a top Maoist leader of CPI-Maoist, was arrested Saturday from Dhanbad district in the state. Mishra is a central committee member of the outfit.
“During interrogation he revealed that CPI-Maoist are planning to attack important government installation of the government of India. He also revealed that they have opened offices in almost all states of the country. And the organisation is preparing cadres in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan,” a senior police official told IANS.
“He revealed during interrogation that CPI-Maoist cadres are upbeat with formation of the communist government in Nepal and it has enthused the cadre to work more vigorously in India,” said the police official.
The police alleged that Mishra had “amassed a lot of property and had flats in Patna, Mumbai, Kolkata and at other places in the country”.
On a tip off, the Ranchi police Tuesday raided a house and seized incriminating documents, computer, CDs and other articles.
According to the police, Mishra admitted that CPI-Maoist have opened two offices in Ranchi and members of the organisation regularly visit the city.
He was sent to judicial custody for 14 days Tuesday.
Mishra is from Aurangabad district of Bihar. The Bihar police have announced a reward of Rs.300,000 for his arrest. He is a suspect in many attacks on security personnel. The police said he was in charge of the outfit’s north India unit.
