Hyderabad : The Andhra Pradesh police will send a special team to Jaipur to study the series of blasts that rocked the Rajasthan capital Tuesday night, killing 63 people, officials here said Wednesday.
The team comprising senior officials will inspect the blast sites, investigate the explosives used and discuss with local police to see if there were any similarities with the blasts that took place in Hyderabad last year, Additional Director General of Police A.K. Khan told reporters here.
Some reports from Jaipur said there were similarities with the Hyderabad blasts as timers and improvised explosive devices were used in both cases.
“We can reach a conclusion only after thorough investigations,” Khan said.
A bomb blast during Friday prayers at the historic Mecca Masjid here May 18, 2007 killed nine people, and two blasts at a public park and an eatery Aug 25 later that year claimed 43 lives.
The police blamed Bangladesh-based Harkat-ul Jihad-e-Islami for the attacks. The same terror outfit is suspected to be involved in the Jaipur serial blasts.
Khan said the state police were also ready to extend any assistance the Jaipur police may require in the investigations.
Meanwhile, the police have sounded an alert in the state and beefed up security at places of worship and public places.
Security has also been tightened at Mecca Masjid here and the Tirupati temple. Policemen were seen frisking people and checking luggage at railway and bus stations. Bomb disposal squads also conducted checks at several public places.
