New Delhi : Inflation in India has increased to a 44-month high of 7.83 percent for the week ending May 3, following rising prices of food and certain manufactured items.
During the week, prices of food items including fruits and vegetables, spices, coffee increased, official data released by the Indian Finance Ministry said here Friday.
Prices of fruits and vegetables rose by three percent, coffee six percent, maize four percent, and spices by one percent, the ministry said.
However, prices of cement, iron and steel declined, while prices of naphtha, furnace oil and light diesel oil rose, the ministry added.
Inflation in India had last touched a high of 7.87 percent on September 11, 2004.
