Lucknow : Close on the heels of a suspicious e-mail sent from an Uttar Pradesh-based cyber café owning responsibility for the Jaipur serial bombings, state police are probing the suspected link of a Kashmiri resident of the city with the terror strike.
State police recovered the visiting card of a Kashmiri shawl seller from an abandoned Esteem car outside the Jaipur railway station late Thursday night – pointing to a possible connection between the Pink City serial bombings and Lucknow.
The card was traced to Afzal, who used to reside in the downmarket Hasanganj locality of Lucknow until about five months back. He had however mentioned a neighbour’s address on the visiting card.
Members of the state Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), who were sent to Jaipur to assist the Rajasthan authorities in the light of their experience with repeated terrorist strikes in Uttar Pradesh, brought a copy of the card to Lucknow on Friday.
Though ATS officials were tight-lipped, reports said that the card bore a rather incriminating caption on its reverse side – “Zinda rehenge to phir milenge” (Will meet again if we remain alive).
Inquiries by the Lucknow police revealed that Afzal had stayed for about a year along with his family in the vicinity of the Hasanganj address he had mentioned on the card. No one could give a clue of his whereabouts after he left the place five months ago. However, there were no suspicious reports about him in the neighbourhood, police said.
“We have put our men on the job and we hope to get more clues soon,” state additional director general of police Brij Lal told IANS.
“Meanwhile, the Maruti Esteem car from which the card was recovered, has been found to be a stolen one from Delhi and it also bears a Delhi registration number,” pointed out Lal. He also mentioned about recovery of a few other Lucknow-related documents including some bills. “But these are still being studied,” he added.
