Jain, who secured the seventh position in the 2007 exam, is a post-graduate from the Delhi School of Economics.

The 25-year-old told PTI that she had dreamt of the moment when she was in Class IX. “When I was in Class IX, I had told one of my friends that one day I would also make it to the civil services exam”.

A topper from her school days, Jain toiled tediously for one and a half year to achieve her goal.

“I sacrificed a lot. I gave up on TV, partying, socialising, going for any marriage and what not. I would begin studies at 4:45 am and continue till 11 pm at night. At times, my mother used to feed me,” she said.

Jain, who has cracked the civil service exam in her first attempt, says her “achievement is the effort of her family”.

Daughter of a gazetted officer with the Delhi government, she is the eldest of the siblings and first in the family to have achieved this stature.

She now aims at utilising her knowledge in economics towards the welfare of the nation.

“India no doubt is doing well economically but the growth is not reaching the downtrodden. Growth should be equitable and I want to achieve this,” says Jain, who is a Ph.D and has qualified UGC net.

Jain had worked with American Express for some time to get the right kind of exposure and had decided to pursue lecturership if she could not make in one go.
