Government spokesman, Gholam-Hossein Elham said on Saturday the President made the remarks in an address to the inaugural ceremony of a meeting of the Public Relations Offices.

The spokesman said the support for the free flow of information was an issue also stressed by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

As the major characteristics of Ahmadinejad’s government, Elham referred to its strong opposition to censorship, respect for the principle of freedom of media, avoiding government’s monopoly over domestic media and serious support for the principle of criticism over government’s performance.

The spokesman added that the government gave top priority to have direct contacts with people and provide them with information.

The day-long meeting of Public Relations Offices would end later in the day with a speech by Ahmadinejad.
