New Delhi : India hopes the high-level talks with Pakistan beginning Tuesday will move the dialogue process forward and address the broad aspects under “an atmosphere free from violence”.
“We are going to Pakistan in the hope to revive the dialogue process that has contributed so much to improving relations,” foreign secretary Shivshankar Menon told reporters here Sunday.
He will be holding talks with his counterpart Salman Bashir Tuesday in Islamabad. A day later, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will hold discussions with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
This will be the first high-level contact between the two countries since the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government assumed office in March.
Menon noted that India wanted the dialogue process “moving forward” within the agreed framework that encompasses three broad aspects.
These aspects are to “create an atmosphere free of violence, discuss Jammu and Kashmir and build long-term relationship between the two societies and economies”.
